Appledore Island, Maine

Here is an image taken Feb 1, 2018 from the Appledore Island webcam hosted by the Shoals Marine Laboratory on Appledore Island, Maine, and publicly accessible at https://www.sondroyo.com/pages/sml/

Appledore is located about six miles off the coast in a group of islands that straddle the Maine – New Hampshire border.  The weather there today is typical windswept winter gray skies.

Gosport Harbor in the distance is created by breakwaters between three islands located on the New Hampshire side of the line.  The cottage in the foreground is on Appledore Island.

The Appledore image is of a cove on the island which has been occupied on and off since the 1600s by fishermen, summer residents and visitors, military personnel, and marine researchers, instructors, and students.
