Sunrise from Mt. Rainier

This is sunrise from around 12,000 feet on Mt Rainier. The sharp rocky peak is Little Tahoma. I took this on September 23, 2017. Might have been better if I was not on a rope, wearing crampons and headlamp — and very tired! But the sun dropping into the valleys far below — and creeping into some but not others, depending on topography — is beautiful I think.

Thundercloud Over the Catalina Mountains

I took this picture from my back porch in Tucson, AZ.  A classic anvil shape T-storm over the Catalina Mountains in Tucson (March 11. 2005).

Cool, still morning at the Margerie Glacier

This picture was taken on 8.23.2016 at the north end of Glacier Bay, Alaska as we approached the glacier by ship.  The bay had been very foggy as we entered, and the clouds gradually lifted, and all that remained were wisps of mists, as seen here.  Previously calved ice can be seen in the quiet foreground waters.

Gorgeous Time Exposure

This is a striking time exposure shot that includes the Milky Way and a Lightning Storm.  From the photographer: “Here it is! Friday nights lightning storm over Batchawana Bay. I’ve been wanting to shoot an image like this for a really long time. So happy everything came together for this”!
